Chalking
TRB0006
Formation of a light coloured powdery coating on the surface of a paint film. This can be a normal process as the paint film weathers and is not generally detrimental to performance.
Causes
- Type of finish
- Age of finish
- Climatic Environment
- Degree of maintenance
Rectification
- Light chalking can usually be removed by light polishing of the affected area.
- If the chalking is more severe a cutting compound can be used. Then compound and polish the affected area. In extreme circumstances re-coating and refinishing may be required.
