Chalking

TRB0006

Formation of a light coloured powdery coating on the surface of a paint film. This can be a normal process as the paint film weathers and is not generally detrimental to performance.

Causes

  1. Type of finish
  2. Age of finish
  3. Climatic Environment
  4. Degree of maintenance

Rectification

  1. Light chalking can usually be removed by light polishing of the affected area.
  2. If the chalking is more severe a cutting compound can be used. Then compound and polish the affected area. In extreme circumstances re-coating and refinishing may be required.
