How to paint a Telephone Box

The iconic red Telephone Box is a well known site across the country, however, many have become in need of repair.  We often get asked what paint should I use to paint a Telephone box. This article will guide you how to paint and exactly what paint to use.

Prep

Ensure surfaces to be coated are dry and must be cleaned using the appropriate HMG product to remove all traces of contaminants. Thoroughly degrease using suitable HMG Prep Clean. Abrade with P80­P180 if necessary before applying appropriate HMG product.

Prime

The Telephone Box should be primed using DG142 Synthetic High Opacity Undercoat Red. Apply 2 coats using a brush or compliant spray gun, allow 15 minutes between coats.

Paint

Apply HMG Coach Enamel 381C 539 Currant Red with a brush. Apply 1-2 full coats. Product will be Touch dry in 3 hours @ 20°c and Hard dry in 12 hrs @ 20°c. C71 Speedline can also be used.
